RSLink2 Logic level to RS-232 Converter
Last Updated 18 Dec 2014
The RSLink2 converts between typical microcontroller logic level UART
signals and the true RS-232 signals required to communicate with a
standard PC COM port. On the microcontroller side it connects to
ground, power, and the logic level receive and transmit lines. The
RS-232 interface is via a female DB-9 connector. It can be
connected to a standard PC COM port with a straight thru extension
cable.
The RSLink2 works with 3.3 and 5 volt systems, whereas the RSLink is only for 5 volt systems.

Specifications
- Microcontroller signals: Ground to power logic
levels. Line idle is high, active is low.
- PC signals: Standard RS-232 compatible with PC COM port,
for example. Line idle is low, active is high. Pin 2 is
the transmit line (out from RSLink2), pin 3 the receive line (in to
RSLink2), and pin 5 is ground. The RTS line is looped back to CTS
(pin 7 connected to pin 8). No other pins are connected.
The pinout is directly compatible with a standard PC COM port. You
could plug a RSLink2 directly into a PC COM port, or use a "straight
thru" extension cable.
- Power: Supplied by microcontroller interface.
Requires 3.0 to 5.5 volts at 15mA maximum.
- Microcontroller connections: 4 pin locking header,
intended to mate with Molex 22-01-3047 or equivalent, available from Jameco as 234819 with pins 234923, or DigiKey as WM2002-ND with pins
WM1114-ND.
- Speed: 250Kbits/second maximum.
- Size: Circuit board is 1.35 x 1.2 inches (34 x 30
mm). Whole unit is 1.6 x 1.2 x 0.6 inches (41 x 30 x 16
mm).
- Temperature: 0-70 degrees Celsius operating range.
- Two layer circuit board with bottom layer ground plane.
